MLK Day 5K Drum Run
The MLK Day 5K Drum Run/Walk is a community-based, family fun celebration of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday. This year we celebrate the 8th Annual run/walk on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 7AM (8AM-5K/10K Start; 9AM -1-Mile Fun Run/Walk). Starting and finishing in the 4th Avenue Historic District of Birmingham’s Civil Rights District, race participants come from diverse populations that include all demographics, races, cultures, genders and creeds to celebrate the meaning of the holiday in a fun and fitness way. THIS YEAR WE HAVE ADDED A 10K!!!
We have our 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk for youth ages 12 years old and younger. The race features drumlines from the metro area schools and organizations that will line up along the race course to keep the beat as the runners and walkers make their way. A portion of the proceeds of the race will benefit our participating drumlines, music programs and SCHOLARSHIPS through our 501(c)(3), The Leftover Energy Foundation Inc. When each approved community organization signs up as a team, $5 of each team member’s registration will be returned to that organization for use in community efforts of its choice.
