Thrift Store 50K & Half Marathon
There’s a twist to this race that will test runners’ bargain hunting skills. Except for their favorite pair of socks and shoes, each runner will be required to outfit their entire race kit, nutrition, and pack from their local thrift store. (Shirt, shorts, jacket, gloves, water bottle, fluids etc) The cost of these items cannot exceed $20 total. It can be done. Be selective in your choices and don’t be afraid to think outside the box. Necessary undergarments will be allowed, but kudos to those who stay hard and go with the bargain brazier.
Packet Pickup
Packet pickup will be available starting at 7:00 the day of the race.
Race Information
The race will start promptly at 8:00. Both races will start simultaneously. The course will be beginner friendly and will feature some rarely used trails and some of the prettier sections of the park.
How does this work again?
You have until now and race day to head out to your favorite or soon to be favorite thrift store. You will need to buy everything there that you’ll need to race. That means shirt, shorts, hat, gloves, pack, food, drink, and drink holder. All of these purchases need to be under $20. You can wear your own shoes, socks, and necessary undergarments, but kudos if you want to go hard core.
Is this really necessary to participate? No, but come on. There’s a ton of races out there where you can sport your latest Salomon Race Kit, but let’s have some fun and get a little weird.
Awards
Prizes unique to the Thrift Store Life will be award to first place female and male for both races. There will also be some unique thrift store awards given out to deserving participants.
Aid Stations
New to the race this year will be water stations at points throughout the course. Please note, no nutrition will be available at the aid stations. You’re still responsible for hauling your Thrift Store calories with you. Water will be available every 6-7 miles.
